② How to apply for a SP?

About the Singapore SP, there are key details we need to understand prior to application:

1.    What is the SP?

① To whom does it apply?

Skilled workers who meet the eligibility criteria.

② Who is able to apply for the SP?

The employer or appointed employment agency must make the application on behalf of the applicant. The new employer must reapply for a new permit if the permit holder changes jobs.

③ How long is it effective duration of the SP?

S Passes can last for a maximum term of up to 2 years. It can be renewed after the expiration should the relevant requirements are met;

④ What does the employer need to do for you?

The employer can only hire you only if the company meets the SP employee quota requirements; At the same time, your employer will have to pay for your health insurance and taxes and purchase a medical primary care plan.

2.    Application requirements

SP pass holders are allowed to work in Singapore as mid-level technicians and applicants are required to earn a monthly remuneration of at least S$3,000.

You are eligible for the SP should you meet the following conditions:

1. Employer: First, the applicant must find a job in Singapore. That is, an employer is willing to hire;
2. Salary: the applicant should have a monthly salary of at least S$3,000;. Should the applicant is operating in the finance industry, the monthly salary should be at least S$3,500. Do note that the salary requirements vary by age and occupation;
3. Education: the applicant should have a minimum certification equivalent to a full-time bachelor’s degree;
4. Age: the applicant should not be less than 22 years old;
5. Work experience: the applicant should have at least 3 years of full-time work experience after graduation with the highest degree;
6. Quota requirements: the employer’s company must meet the SP employee quota, which is the ratio of Singapore citizens, permanent residents, and foreign employees in the company. The more local employees a company has, the more foreign SP applicants it can apply for. So employers need the SP quota to apply for an SP for applicants.

Note: Singapore will increase the eligible wage threshold and levies for SP holders to raise their quality to the top third of Singapore’s local APT workforce. The changes will be phased in from 1 September 2022. The SP quota will also be renewed from January 1, 2023.

• A monthly salary of at least S$6,000;
